Medication Changes:  Gave her 325 mg acetaminophen at 1810 just before her nap, with a piece of toast, because of all her difficulty moving her legs. Wasn't sure it would do anything but I thought it might at least ameliorate her complaint that "I feel as though I have too much leg". It took care of that, it seems, because I asked her while she was moving around, but she was still very iffy on her feet.
Dinner:  Home made Mac & Cheese with added pork sausage, hamburger, chopped onion, celery, garlic, fresh green chilis and sun dried tomatoes; a scoop of lemon gelato and a scoop of berry gelato for dessert.
  • Awoke from night sleep: 1400
  • Went down for nap: 1830
  • Awoke from nap: 2100
  • Went down for night sleep: 0000

A.M. Blood Pressure:
    Time:  1230
    BP:  124/69

P.M. Blood Glucose:
    Time:  2107
    Reading:  106

Bowel Movement(s):  Pretty much every time she sat on the toilet, which would have been four times throughout the day, she eliminated some. All were the same: Fairly poor volume; thin, soft consistency; very easy elimination (mostly she wasn't aware she was eliminating); pretty challenging clean-up. There were also fecal stains on her paper underwear each time we changed them (I change them every time she goes to the bathroom).
Medication Changes:  I was so freaked by her weakness and her low blood pressure that morning (both of which have been known to accompany a drop in hemoglobin or some other chemical problem) that, about 1/2 hour before dinner, I gave her 2.5 mg metaclopramide, just to make sure she didn't up-chuck her food. Her appetite was excellent, as usual.
Dinner:  2 KFC Original Recipe thighs; about 3/4 cup KFC Macaroni & Cheese with added Mrs. Dash's Southwest Chipotle seasoning; about 2/3 cup KFC cole slaw; about 3/4 cup home made peach cobbler with about 1/2 cup freshly whipped cream. I want to add here that I was concerned about the cleansing effect the prune juice had finally had on her and made sure she had a high electrolyte dinner. As well, I have decided to eliminate the daily prune juice and give it to her only when I would normally give her Phillip's Milk of Magnesia.

A.M. Blood Pressure:
    Time:  1120

    Reading:  97.6

P.M. Blood Glucose:
    Time:  1915
    Reading:  104

Bowel Movement(s):  That's right, folks, two in one day; one at 1150 and one at 2345; both volumes were good, adding up to excellent; both eliminations were very easy, the consistency of the first was very good, the second was a bit soft and clean-up on the first was very easy while it was a bit challenging on the second. We might have to cut back a bit on the prune juice.
Dinner:  Left over Costco Chicken Parmesan; about 3/4 cup steamed Brussels sprouts with Caesar dressing; a can of (drained) Mandarin orange sections in light syrup.

Stat Vacation: 8/27/08 - 9/1/08

P.M. Blood Glucose:
    Time:  2020
    Reading:  182

We just didn't feel like it, Mom and me, punching fingers, binding wrists, probing mouths, taking stats, so we started the vacation on Wednesday, 8/28/08, and, day by day, managed to take almost a week off.
I'm going to record a few things here, just to get them down.
Bowel Movements:  Have been regular, easy to discharge, sometimes a bit soft but overall good consistency. At the Hospice RN's suggestion, I've started giving her 6-8 oz (we built up from 6 to 8 over the last six days) prune juice. I give it to her in the evening. This is to try to keep from giving her Phillip's Milk of Magnesia, which the RN described as "one of the big guns". I don't like giving her as much Phillip's as I've been giving her, lately, either. It makes her feet swell a bit. The feet swelling has gone down and she is eliminating regularly, so the prune juice seems to be a good thing.
Medication Changes:  A couple of times over the past six days I've given her 325 mg acetaminophen for stiffness and right knee "iffiness". Otherwise, there have been no changes.
  • Since Saturday, when I went to Costco, she's had a danish for breakfast, instead of orange juice and toast, every morning. I've been putting her Benefiber in a cup of coffee with breakfast instead of in her orange juice. I assume her blood glucose has been running high in the evening, but I can't tell, from her behavior or her body, that this is affecting her.
  • Some of the dinners I remember:
    • Last night we had chili dogs on bolillo rolls and lemon meringue pie.
    • Saturday night we had Costco chicken Parmesan; brocolli with Greek feta dressing; lemon meringue pie.
    • Friday we had Carl's Jr. Bacon Guacamole burgers with onion rings.
    • Thursday night we had roast chicken with rice and dressed brocolli and German Chocolate cake ice cream.
    • Wednesday night we had home made hamburgers with home pickled beets (no sugar) and German Chocolate Cake ice cream.
  • All in all, hearty meals, twice a day, dessert of some kind almost every night.
I expect I'll start statting again tomorrow, since tomorrow is another RN visit. It would probably be a good idea to see how she's doing...and maybe get back to the routine again.
Okay, so I started to get back into the swing of things and took one stat today.
